The Indian At the Broadmoor ~ A Ghost Lives in the Shadows

Neil’s ability to capture quirky but compelling images is exemplified by his image of “The Indian at the Broadmoor.” Photographing the afternoon shadows on a stacked rock wall at the 5-Star Colorado Springs Broadmoor Hotel, he brings to life the ghost of a Native American chief.

Existing only until the light changes, the transitory nature of the portrait can be read as a metaphor for the spirit of the long gone Ute and Cheyenne people who were displaced from the base of the Cheyenne Mountain when the Broadmoor Hotel was built in the early 20th Century.

Starting out as a small hotel and casino, the hotel grew as it attracted a wealthy clientele drawn to the beauty of Pikes Peak, as well as to the mountain air which was said to aid in the recovery of tuberculosis patients.

More of Neil’s unique Broadmoor Hotel images can be found here.

V is For Vendetta ~ Manitou Springs Style

Manitou Springs, Colorado, is like nowhere else. Award-winning restaurants, historic hotels, small restored Victorian bed & breakfasts, classic 50’s motels, cabins & cottages by Fountain Creek and secluded wooded campgrounds bring thousands of tourists to the small town at the base of Pikes Peak.

Named after dozen mineral springs situated throughout the area, many of which have drinking spigots for the public, the city has been in existence since the Colorado Territory became a state in 1876.

With the Manitou Springs Art Council a driving force, Manitou Springs is home to dozens of artists and art galleries and as eccentric and charming a group of residents as you’ll ever meet.

Neil snapped this shot one hot afternoon just before the caped crusader stepped into  Pikes Peak Chocolate and Ice Creams. Even a masked man, it seems, has a yen for a Josh and John ice cream cone now and then.

More of Neil’s unique take on Manitou Springs are available in his studio, #105, at Cottonwood Center for the Arts, 427 E. Colorado in downtown Colorado Springs or on Facebook at Talbott Artworks. He can also be reached by email  or by phone at (719) 532-0499
